Finding My IP Address on a MAC
If you wish to know how to find your IP address and you are using Apple’s MAC, then here are some simple tips on the best way to answer the question of how do I find my IP address?
Open the terminal window or click on the desktop background and click on the applications from the top of the menu ‘finder’ which should appear on your menu bar. Ones you are in the applications window open the Utilities folder to open the commands which will be under its submenu click on the Terminal tab.
A terminal window will appear which you are going to type the command “ifconfig” then click on the run button. Immediately some information will be displayed on the window and it will include your IP address which will be included in the line inet x.x.x.x netmask, where the numbers shown by the four x will be your address. If that is too complicated you may try typing another command”netstat -p tcp” which will output far less complicated information that will be easy to locate your address. In MAC the IP address has the numbers 127.0.0.1.
Alternatively you can click on the Apple icon on your computer then choose the “about this MAC” option, then more info on network and you will see the IP address displayed on the right side of the window. From the same Apple icon you may choose ‘system preferences’ then network to find your IP address plus other information on the connection of internet on your computer such as router info and the subnet mask.
